Isotelus is a genus of trilobite, an extinct class of arthropods that lived during the Palaeozoic Era. They ranged in size from about an inch up to a little more than 20 inches.

Trilobite bodies were broken up into three main parts – the cephalon (head), thorax and pygidium (tail). However, their name is derived from the fact that width-wise, their bodies are separated into three distinct lobes.

Like other arthropods, trilobites had hard exoskeletons, making them ideal for fossilization. Because of this, their fossilized remains are common and well known to scientists and collectors.
