Century High School
Originally reported as at least three victims, two students were wounded January 18, 2011, at a Los Angeles, California high school when a student’s gun accidentally discharged according to Jessica Hopper in the January 18, 2011, ABC News article, “Los Angeles School Shooting Injures Two, Student in Custody”. One victim was shot in the head and the school, Gardena High School, was locked down while the authorities searched for the suspect. After one hour of searching the campus, authorities took one student into custody who was wearing jeans and a long-sleeve dark shirt.

According to spokesperson, Robert Alaniz, the unidentified suspect is a tenth grade student at the school who had the gun in his back pack. The incident was reported by a teacher at 10:40 a.m. today during the change in between classes. It is reported that the student had the gun in his backpack when it unintentionally fired, allowing one bullet to hit two students, one of these students was hit in the head and the other student was hit in the neck.
