Professionals at the top 10 percent in the industry earned over $20 an hour as of May 2008. Beauty schools in Northern California help to prepare prospective beauty professionals to get their license so that they can earn a living in the industry.

Alameda Beauty College

Students can attend Alameda Beauty College part-time or full-time. Since January 2010 the school has hired additional licensed instructors to meet the demands of increased student enrollment. Some instructors own their own salon, while other instructors have more than 30 years of experience in the industry.

Because Alameda Beauty College has a privately owned salon, students can cut, color, relax and style hair of customers who visit the spa. Classroom and hands on training covers hair design, make-up application and manicures. It takes about 14 months to complete the 1600 hour training program if students attend the school full-time. Alameda Beauty College is accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Schools.
