New Jersey Private School Ranking

Private school choices should be made with as much attention to detail as if buying a new house or investing for retirement. Many parents, however, never employ the same diligence when sending their children to a private school. While there are many pros and cons regarding private versus public schools, once parents decide on a non-public choice an entirely new set of questions need to be asked.

Secular or Religious-Based Private Schools

Private schools affiliated with or directly run by churches mandate that all students take part in religion or Bible classes that generally teach the perspective and theological beliefs of the particular church. For parents who are not members of any church group or identify with a different faith tradition, this may be a significant factor.

If a religiously-based private school becomes a serious option, parents should read the course syllabi for religion classes and page through the text books used. This might even include the particular version of a Bible being used. Parents should also ask to what extent students are required to participate in religious ceremonies.
