Many fine colleges offer a course in photography as a facet of their official curriculum, but this means you will be juggling a bevy of classes, photography being only one of them. Time to learn photography will be limited and a class will most likely be focused on technique rather than aesthetics or the scope of photography. There are alternative environments, however, that concentrate strictly on photography and are worth pondering.
Your Local Technical Schools/Community Colleges
These resources offer Certificates and Associates Degrees and allow students to pick and choose their subject of vocation. Since they serve the local community, (usually) no dormitories exist on the property and students live off-campus.
Tech Schools and Community Colleges are designed to teach an occupation and get the student out into society working as soon as possible. As such, they are more likely to get into the ‘business end’ of photography (teaching copyright law, branding techniques, etc.) than do universities, which conform to the course's prescribed curriculum. Trade schools will sometimes supplement the course work with college-sponsored, off-campus workshops.
